かきごおり(kakigori) chipped ice
かき/kaki >欠けた/kaketa =Chipped
ごおり/gori >こおり/kori= ice
Do you know why /kori(=ice)/ became /gori/?
↓ ↓ ↓ ↓
A word which consists of two words such as かき+氷/kakigori/ (かき+こおり)
The initial sound of the second word, in this case, こおり/kori/, tends to be vocalized as ごおり/gori/: /k/(unvoiced sound)→/g/(voiced sound). It is a universal phenomenon that consonants in between vowels(voiced sound) are likely to be voiced. e.g. resolve vs. solve.
